Two armed men broke into the apartment Saturday Night while a Columbia woman and her 1-year-old son were home, police said.
The woman said she heard a loud banging on the front door of her Gatehouse Apartments residence at about 9:30 p.m., and before she could answer the door, two men entered her apartment, according to a news release.
The men, who were armed with a small semi-automatic handgun, pushed her down onto a glass table.
"The suspects came in looking for money," CPD Sgt. Ken Hammond said. "Their motive was robbery."
The suspects were wearing all black clothing and black masks, according to the release.
There is nothing to indicate if there was a relationship between the suspects and the victim.
The suspects searched the apartment and too money from the woman before fleeing the scene, the news release stated. Police are not releasing the amount of money taken from the apartment, Hammond said. He said nothing else was taken from the apartment.
The woman suffered minor cuts from the glass when the table broke. Her son was not injured.
Police have not identified any suspects.
"We are in the early stages of our investigation," Hammond said.
Hammond said home invasions are not common for this area."There have been home invasions in the past, but nothing to indicate a trend," he said.
