Five artists you should check out
The music industry is difficult to break into, but these five artists deserve it.
As we all know, the music industry is one of the hardest places to make it in. Even if you get your first album or single out, you’re not guaranteed a spot in the glorified industry.
There are millions of artists trying to make it, but here are five that MOVE thinks deserve a spot:
Halsey: The 21-year-old indie pop singer started writing songs when she was 17. In 2014, she signed her first recording contract with Astralwerks. Halsey released her debut EP, “Room 93,” the same year. It included five tracks that received rave reviews. She released her first studio album, Badlands, in August 2015. Once this album was released, Halsey started to receive the attention she deserves. She is currently on tour.
Tink: This 20-year-old rapper and singer-songwriter is one to watch. She has released five mixtapes and is said to be releasing her debut studio album in 2015. She has music in her blood, as her mother is a gospel singer and her father a record producer. She released her first mixtape, “Winter’s Diary,” in 2012 while still in high school. She mixes rapping and singing in her songs.
James Bay: I am sure you at least have heard the popular song “Let it Go” that was released in 2014 by the folk-rock singer. He has gained massive attention in the U.K., and he is becoming well known in the U.S. too. In 2014, he toured with Hozier, which seems to have given him the push he needed. He has released one album, “Chaos and the Calm.”
Marian Hill: This songwriting duo is made up of Jeremy Lloyd on production and Samantha Gongol on vocals. They released their first EP, “Play,” in 2013, and in 2015, they released their album “Sway.” They are currently on tour across the U.S. They have a total of nine songs that mix blues, jazz, bass and delicate vocals.
Broods: Broods is a brother-sister duo from New Zealand. Georgia Nott is on lead vocals and Caleb Nott is on multiple instruments, production and backing vocals. “Bridges” is their most popular song. After it was released they signed with Capitol and Polydor Records. They released their self-titled debut EP in January 2014 and followed with a full-length album, “Evergreen,” in August 2014. Let’s hope this indie-pop duo is working on their next album for 2015.
