'Identity Crisis' asks viewers to look inside themselves

"Identity Crisis" combines five different short films that examine a common thread in most of our lives: experiencing a loss of belonging or direction. Ranging from a deer who thinks he’s a cow to the more serious topic of suicide, the compilation offers an insight to the understanding of experiencing a crisis of one’s identity.

Given the variety of directors involved and plethora of topics chosen, it’s hard to be disappointed with the film. Jay Rosenblatt’s short, "Darkness of Day," combined footage of suicide-related scenes, including an image of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. His collage style cinematography adds an effect that allows the viewer to reflect on becoming more sensitive to those around them.

"Notes on the Other" takes a look at a group of gentlemen in Key West, Fla. who enter an Earnest Hemingway look-alike competition every year. The short also examines the type of identity crisis that Hemingway experienced throughout his life, leading up to his suicide.

A more light-hearted short, "Herd" examines a deer who continuously visits a farm full of cows, thinking that he is a cow himself. Apparently identity crises don’t just exist in humans.

You may laugh, you may cry but either way the combination of these short films will touch you emotionally and expand your mind, forcing you to reflect on your own identity.
