Free movie on Hulu dissects Halloween

If you’re like me, there are only two days of the year when you worry about what you are going to be for Halloween: the day before Halloween when you scramble and hastily put something together and the day after Halloween when you promise yourself you’ll do better next year.

The people in “Halloween on 6th Street,” a new documentary that’s available to watch for free on Hulu, are not like me.

The film takes an in depth look on how people – primarily in the South – celebrate the holiday.

It’s interesting to see how the people in the film focus on different aspects of Halloween. The main character – the one who gets the most face time – is an engineer who is working on his costumes the entire year. It’s fascinating to see how much work can be put into something that is only worn for a matter of hours.

Another character in this documentary makes Halloween scenes in her yard, each with a different theme, such as dinosaurs or zombies. She also buys a ton of candy, which might be why she gets more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters a year.

But It’s not all about fun and games in "Halloween on 6th Street." One man has put a lot of his time into learning as much about the history of the holiday as possible. This guy teaches a different college course each year about a different aspect of Halloween -- ranging from its history, to vampires, to Frankenstein and his monster. Don’t look for it on Myzou though, University of Texas is the only one that offers it I’m afraid.

“Halloween on 6th Street” has a little something for everyone. From haunted houses to making a Bender costume – yes, the Bender from "Futurama." It’s a great way to get you psyched up and in the right frame of mind for the upcoming holiday. Hell, I might even buckle down and get myself a proper costume this year.
