Monthly content needed to keep gamers interested

If there is one thing I wish I had more of, it would be money. Of course everyone would want more money, but I would use it to buy more games. As of right now, I’m stuck with two options. I could replay my games -- which isn’t such a bad idea -- except for the fact that I’ve played them over and over again already, or I could play new alternate content available for those games.

One of the games I am playing again is “Grand Theft Auto IV.” I have to admit, it is getting to a point where roaming around Liberty City while blowing up cars and having a firefight with Liberty City’s finest becomes repetitive and absolutely boring. I am aware of the additional downloadable content (DLC), including missions “The Lost and Damned” and “The Ballad of Gay Tony,” that add more missions to the game, but I think that if Rockstar wants people to be heavily invested in its games, they need to come out with more DLC. Because as everyone knows, nothing lasts forever -- including DLC.

Let me give you an example. After finishing the game, the main character Niko Bellic has other side missions that he could complete. One example of this is the assassin missions, which consist of Niko receiving a phone call about a target and then he has to take out the target in any way possible. After a while, these missions expire and, once again, there is nothing to do in Liberty City. Instead, I'm proposing this: every month, the developers need to come up with a set of missions (for free, of course) and include them in a monthly update of the game. I’m not sure if there is a cost of making a mission for these developers, but I’m pretty sure, that one mission, or even ten missions does not take a lot of time or money to create.

As we all know, Rockstar released “Red Dead Redemption” and it has been a huge success. With the release of additional DLC, the game has gained even greater popularity. But one must ask the question, when will DLC end for a game? And when it does, will there be anything else to do in the game?

Some might call my ideas as another form of DLC, but I see it as a way of keeping gamers playing the same game for a long time. If you are satisfied with the current DLC packs for a game, then great, but what happens when you’ve finished every mission and gained every achievement in the pack? Gamers pay $60 or more for each game, the least developers can do is release monthly content to make sure we keep playing their games for a long time.
