Andy Warhol has arrived
Andy Warhol is at Mizzou.
The famed painter-filmmaker died in the late 1980s, but his artwork lives on at many art galleries and museums across the world, displaying the prints and paintings that inspired a generation. Most notably, Warhol is associated with the visual art movement known as pop art of which the famous Marilyn Monroe painting was born. He also attained unstinting fame for his portraits, prints and fine art that included a variety of mediums, techniques, textiles and form. His prints appealed to Average Joes and movies stars alike, with its ability to capture energy and dynamism in every stroke of the brush.
Now, his works are available for view at The Museum of Art and Archeology in Pickard Hall, located right here on campus. The museum’s online exhibit, called "Illumination," features over 20 photographs taken by the artist using the “big shot” technique, which was essentially a form of Polaroid photography using a bigger camera (The Big Shot) with a shorter photographic range. The shots feature pop culture icons such as Jack Nicklaus, Debbie Harry and Shahindy Fenton. All of the shots were donated by the Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Art.
Fashion is a form of art. The same electric feeling you get when you see grandiose architecture or beautifully painted portrait is the same feeling you get when you see a carefully styled yet daring ensemble. For designers, art is style -- fashion designers are painters, sculptors, welders and tailors all in one.
Art is all over Columbia. Especially in the historic North Village Arts District. Orr Street Studio, Sven’s Gallery and Kafe and Moon Shadow Studio are just a few of the many art-inspired venues located between MU and downtown Columbia. The best trends are created in the minds of true artists.
