Step away from gym shoes
Attention Guys: It’s fall. Although I know it might seem tempting to go buy the newest Adidas or throw on some old jogging shoes, but there are so many other options.
I often here guys complaining that shopping is geared toward women -- women have more options, more functionality and more opportunities. To that, I say: fight the system. You can wear shoes. Sure, maybe not heels or flats, but what about boat shoes, oxfords, boots, loafers or even Toms? You guys have tons of options.
Many designers who have traditionally been known for making men’s attire (most notably, Hugo Boss, Kenneth Cole) have entered the shoe market as well. Most every big designer has a shoe brand, and some of the designers have paired up with stores such as Macy’s and Dillard’s to feature their shoes.
This season, boots are a male-must have.
Harness boots, Doc Martens, and my favorite, chukka boots are all great, versatile shoes that can make any fall wardrobe balance with the season. They have subtle details and hand crafted designs that make them attract attention without demanding it. The chukka boot, which is traditional ankle length and made of suede, is amazing because it can transition from day to night when paired with the right balmer jacket, car coat or the classic pea coat.
Don’t be afraid to say, "no" to gym shoes. A nice cardigan, polo or even a vintage, long sleeve tee can look even better with real shoes.
Finally, if you feel that you must wear gym shoes, try to find ones with embellishments, such as buckles, detailed stitching and genuine leather. That way, you have the soul of a shoe with the design of a gym shoe.
