Update: Gun found in MU
A gun was found in a box in the Division of Information Technology building, Tuesday.
The MU Police Department received a report of a weapon inside a box a little before noon. Chief Jack Watring said having a weapon inside the building was a violation of university rules and regulations but no one was threatened.
The owner of the gun has been located and was admitted into an out of town hospital, Watring said.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said the MU police believe that the MU community is completely safe as it relates to this particular incident.
“The point of this thing is no one was put in any danger,” Watring said. “There was never anyone brandishing a firearm. There was never a problem on campus with that situation other than the rules and regulations violation.”
Watring also said the case is still under investigation but that they don’t anticipate any further problems.
Basi said the police are also collaborating with the MU Human Resources Department.
As of Thursday morning, Watring said there have been no further updates.
