MUPD plans to conduct DWI saturation

To provide a safe environment for graduation weekend, the MU Police Department plans to conduct a DWI saturation this evening at 11 p.m until 3 a.m. tomorrow, an MUPD news release stated.

The saturation will focus on alcohol related offenses by providing additional officers to regular patrols, the news release stated.

The release also stated that these efforts will provide a safe environment for students, families, and guests who are in town for graduation events and activities.

“Students have worked hard to achieve their educational goals and we are putting forth extra effort to ensure that they and their guests can safely celebrate their accomplishments," MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said in the news release.

The release stated that the department realizes it is important to enforce negative consequences when it comes to making bad decisions with alcohol and drunk driving.

MUPD also will be assisted by extra officers provided by the Columbia Police Department and Boone County Sheriff's Department, the news release stated.
