Vehicle leaves scene of accident
Columbia firefighters were called around 9:45 a.m. on Monday to Route B and Highway 63 for an injury and extrication crash, a Columbia Fire Department news release stated.
Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jessie Haden said a semi tractor trailer unit was taking a left onto an on-ramp to Highway 63 and and caused a 1989 Dodge Pickup to swerve into the next lane, colliding with a 2007 Gold Cadillac Escalade.
The tractor trailer left the scene of the accident. Haden said although the vehicle did not make impact with either of the damaged vehicles, it was still a contributing factor.
"I consider this a leaving-the-scene (accident) because it was involved, but it didn’t make contact," Haden said. "We want to catch up and interview and talk to the driver."
A total of five people were in the two damaged cars: two in the Dodge pickup and three in the Cadillac Escalade. Haden said all five passengers were taken to local hospitals for evaluation but she said none had life threatening injuries.
Robert McBaine, 51, of Mexico, Mo., was driving the Dodge Pickup and Carolyn Mosley, 71, of Mexico Mo., was driving the Escalade.
Haden said she didn't know whether seat belts were used.
Haden also said the airbags on the Escalade did deploy but is unsure about the pickup because the the truck may have been too old a model to have them.
